Presentation: The Ghost of NABU Past with Leo Binkowski

This is a recorded version of “The Ghost of NABU Past” presentation created by NABU Software Engineering legend Leo Binkowski for the Vintage Computer Festival East that was held on April 14th, 2023 in Wall, NJ.

As an added bonus it’s a “director’s cut”, since Leo added some segments that he had removed to make sure to stay comfortably with the time he was allotted for his VCF East presentation.

A huge thank you to Leo Binkowski for redoing his VCF East talk and for the NABU Network site shout-out around the 37 minute mark.

Signal Monitor Board for Diagnostics and Repairs

In this video we check out Rudy’s NABU PC Signal Monitoring Board. This board is used for monitoring and diagnostics of the NABU Z80 based computer.

With Rudy’s board you can easily check voltages (+5, +12 and -12DC), clock signal, view and measure CPU related signals with ease.

This is an easy kit to build, plus Rudy provides the files for free so that you can make your own. The Gerber files are available for download at:

NABU Computer Gets New Old Games

As of today we have 2 new games for the NABU Personal Computer that helps fill the void of missing PAK files from the Main Menu! The two games are Grog and Demotrons and are currently available in our NABU Network cycles.

NABU PC Game GROG

NABU PC Game DEMOTRONS

So how did this happen? Santo over at VintageComputer.ca was able to recover an original NABU disk of Leo’s by copying it to a real floppy disk and re-ripping it. Sweet!

To load them use the NABU Cycle (V1 or V2) shortcut option and type in GROG or DEMOTRONS then press Go! Boom, you’re off to the races!

If you haven’t tried it, check out our NABU Network Internet Adapter software. A new version will be released in the coming days, so stay tuned.

As time goes on more games will continue to be added to the original cycles thanks to NABU Software Engineering legend, Leo Binkowski and his ongoing preservation efforts!
